AGPM Professor Awarded Arts Research Institute Grant

July 1, 2019

AGPM professor micha cárdenas was awarded a grant from the UCSC Arts Research Institute to support her artistic research practice.

The purpose of the Arts Research Institute is to enhance the national and international prominence of the arts at UCSC through publication, performance, exhibition, or curation, and to increase the quality and vitality of research and creative work in theory, scholarship, and practice in the arts. Professor cárdenas was awarded a grant to support the ongoing development of her game Sin Sol / No Sun.

The funds from the grant will support UCSC graduate students Krizia Puig, Dorothy Santos and Clara Qin to work in cárdenas’ new Critical Realities Studio this summer on the game. AGPM Professor Marcelo Viana Neto is collaborating with cárdenas on Sin Sol. Sin Sol is an augmented reality game about climate induced wildfires, told through Aura, a trans Latinx AI character and her dog, Azul.
